Optical Fiber

Quartz fibres used for fibre optic cables are flexible, transparent fibres made of pure silica glass, not much thicker than a human hair, essential for the telecommunications industry.  Constructed with a transparent core surrounded by transparent cladding material, which has a lower index of refraction, optical fibres make use of the highest purity quartz sand on the market. The centre of the optical fibre is often made from ultra-pure synthetic quartz, as any impurities can interfere with the transmission of data. The cladding, however, can be made of ultra-high-purity natural quartz, such as the material supplied by the QUARTZ Corp.  Fibre optic cables are essential for the advancement of high speed internet infrastructure, which is required for the continued growth of connectivity.

Quartz glass is often used in high end optical lenses, due to the excellent UV transmission offered by quartz glass. Optical lenses are essential for many applications, including scientific research, industrial optics, medical equipment, and consumer lenses. Obtaining the best possible light transmission from optical devices requires low impurity content in the glass, making the QUARTZ Corp’s high purity quartz product ideal for these applications.
