The Gusher Knob land tract has been surveyed in the past, with drill evaluations completed in 1997. Approximately 80 acres of the property contain a kaolin clay-based deposit of very high purity quartz and ultra-high purity quartz.
In 1997, 37 cores were drilled by Lewis J. Hash and Associates, Inc., Mineral Consultants. Five samples from each of five holes were beneficiated and tested, with average results as outlined below. Beneficiation was performed by the Minerals Research Laboratory of Asheville, N.C. The exhibit also shows specs from other major high purity quartz producers for comparison.
(Details for each of these 25 samples are provided in the Appendix.)
Per the Lewis J. Hash report, there are approximately 1.2 million tons of ore with a c. 10.6%
recovery rate, resulting in an estimated c. 100,000 tons of quartz. The full Hash Report is
provided in the APPENDIX, as well as USGS Bulletin #48, dated 1946, regarding kaolin deposits in the
area, with specific information on the Gusher Knob deposit.
