The Land and Mineral Company was founded in 1928 to hold the real estate and mineral resource assets of the Brown family of Asheville, North Carolina. It is chartered in Delaware and has conducted business in mineral rights and land transactions in Avery and Mitchell Counties since its founding.
Its primary mineral resource asset is Gusher Knob, a 224-acre tract located in Avery County on Hwy 194, approximately one mile east of Hwy 19E, and five miles east of Spruce Pine. Approximately eighty acres of the property have a kaolin-based deposit of very high purity quartz.
